WELCOME TO THE OIL RICH COMMUNITY WITH ONLY ONE CAR

In the course of my countless wandering, curiosity made me embark on a boat trip for the first time to riverine Bayelsa communities.

My destination was Tabidaba, where Agip Oil has its flow station, but since I couldn’t put a leash on my curious mind, I wandered into Oloibiri, a community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, several kilometres away from Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa.

Oloibiri, the community where oil was first discovered in Nigeria with so much firsts to its name, is surrounded by water left, right, centre and has me wondering if there are other transport means of getting into the community except by Boat/ship...

I was however shocked when my source who is a Naval staff stationed at Agip Flow station, Tabidaba told me that despite the wealth generated from this modest community, and the name it has made the world over, there is just one car and three tricycles that ply its roads.

This leaves me wondering whether this development is by choice or from indigenes' inability to procure road transport, or simply because they think having more cars would be useless since most of their journeys are made through boats...
